How it works
The receipt you lose is the deduction you lose.
Contractors, realtors, and gig drivers don't lose deductions because they're careless. They lose them because thermal paper fades in a glovebox, or a shoebox gets emptied in March, or nobody wants to open a bookkeeping app while standing at a gas pump. Frequently asked
Do I need to sign up or install anything?
No. TextLedger runs entirely over text message — no app, no password, no form. Texting your first receipt is the sign-up.
The one thing we need eventually is an email address, because that's where your spreadsheet gets sent. We'll ask for it once, at the point it actually matters. Until then, keep texting receipts.
What does it cost?
Your first two weeks are free, counted from the moment you send your first receipt. After that it's $7.99 a month, or $79 a year if you'd rather pay once and have the whole tax year covered.
We don't ask for a card to start, and nothing is charged unless you pick a plan. If you'd rather stop, text STOP or just don't choose one — and you can still text EXPORT to take your records with you.
What if a receipt is faded or blurry?
Faded thermal paper is the hardest case there is, and we won't pretend otherwise — a worn digit can be read wrong.
That's exactly why we text the extracted details straight back to you. You see the merchant, amount, date, and category within seconds, while the receipt is still in your hand and the purchase is fresh. If something's off, reply and we'll correct it. A flat surface and decent light make a real difference too.
Can I send the spreadsheet to my accountant?
Yes. Text EXPORT and the CSV arrives in your email — forward it to them, or drop it straight into whatever software they use. It opens in Excel, Google Sheets, and Numbers without conversion.
Do I need WhatsApp?
No. Regular text messaging works exactly the same. WhatsApp is there if you prefer it — both go to (609) 323-0343 and land in the same record.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Both, identically. Because everything happens over standard picture messaging, there's no app to be compatible with.
Can I throw away the paper receipt after I text it?
For most everyday business expenses, yes — a clear digital copy is generally sufficient for IRS documentation.
One exception worth knowing: receipts for vehicles, equipment, or other business property establish your cost basis, so keep those for as long as you own the asset and a few years after you sell it. TextLedger isn't a tax or legal advisor — check your own situation with your accountant.
How do I stop the messages, or delete my data?
Text STOP and messages end immediately. Text START if you want them back. Message and data rates may apply from your carrier.
For deletion, email support@gotextledger.com and we'll remove your records and receipt images.
